NavGate 500 now official in Europe

Pioneer AVIC-F500BT - now known as NavGate 500 was just made official yesterday.

One of the main innovations with NavGate 500 is the size of the screen measuring 5.8″ - which we believe is a record as far as portable nav systems go. NavGate will have 800×480 pixel (WVGA) resolution, just like HP iPAQ 310, and Garmin nüvi 5000.

NavGate 500 integrates a hands free Bluetooth kit from Parrot, an RDS/TMC module for traffic information, voice commands, a processor running at 600 MHz and of the course the SiRF StarIII GPS chip.

It will ship with maps from TeleAtlas covering 30 European countries including Greece, Poland, the Czech republic, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, Romania and Turkey.

Another feature with NavGate 500 will be the ability to connect to your car stereo through Mosfet 50 amplifier which should provide a very good sound quality. Also AV, USB port, iPod connection, and an SD card slot are standard with NavGate 500 allowing you to connect various external audio and video devices.

Pioneer NavGate 500 will hit the market in May and will sell for 699 €.

Installation

Installation of CoPilot Live 6 for the Moto Q was in a word, "easy". I have tried other solutions with the Treo including TomTom and Mapopolis and you cannot even compare the installation process with that of CoPilot Live 6. All of your maps come pre-installed on a mini-SD card along with the application. Once you insert the mini-SD card, CoPilot automatically installs. No need to connect your Moto Q to your Mac or PC. No ActiveSync. Simply insert the mini-SD card and off you go. Well, almost. You need to activate the license and this can be done right from your Q. Again, took a minute or so to complete this process. Having spent over an hour moving TomTom maps via a slow USB connection, I cannot say enough about how much I appreciated the easy installation process of CoPilot Live.

OQO Unveils Model 02

In my opinion OQO is probably the most underrated company in IT. We’ve twice had variants of its gorgeous ‘model 01’ pocket size PC in our hands – the original 01 and the 01+ Tablet Edition – and loved them both but the format has yet to really take off. It also beat Microsoft’s UMPC concept out the door by several years so hopefully the new ‘Model 02’ will get OQO the recognition it deserves.

There’s plenty of people-tracking GPS devices out there to choose from, but if you’re in need of something a bit more specialized, you may want to consider this latest device from Keruve, which is apparently intended specifically for Alzheimer’s Patients.
